Children are amazing. They are born with the innate capacity to learn from everything they feel, see, and hear around them. Much like a tiny seed has the ability to become a beautiful plant if given the right conditions, children have unlimited potential if a solid foundation of literacy is laid-- the earlier, the better.

BUDAPEST (Reuters) - Thousands of Hungarians protested on Saturday against education reforms implemented by Prime Minister Viktor Orban, which critics see as another attempt by the right-wing leader to boost his control over state institutions.
Teachers, whose demands include a sharp reduction in teaching hours and a free choice of textbooks, were joined in the rain outside parliament by other unionized workers including miners and civil servants.
Protesters say the reforms form part of a centralization drive by Orban over the past six years that has brought state media and other public institutions under his government's control.
Singing the national anthem, some protesters shouted "We won't let this happen." Others held banners saying "Don't chase our youth away."

Another area that the Cowen Institute for Public Education Initiatives focuses on is public policy, which helps ensure that the necessary laws are made to further the improvement in education. Those involved in this objective research the laws that would help schools, and do their best to ensure that they are passed. Additionally, this area focuses on obtaining funding for schools in the area.

The Cowen Institute for Public Education Initiatives is an entity in Louisiana that strives to use new ideas to improve the schools in this state. It is headed by Scott S. Cowen, who is Tulane University's current president. Of course, the ideas that are found to work well may eventually be used by those in every state, but the current focus is the local public school system that teaches kindergarten through 12th grade. Not only does this organization get help from Tulane staff members and students, but it has also partnered with major universities around the nation, such as Harvard, Emory, and Brown, to name a few.

These children, both the ones I met in Kenya and the ones she met in Ghana could hardly have been any more different. Most of my students' future was pretty much traced already, with their parents' business to take over, no doubt of a college education and a promised life of comfort.
My friend's Ghanaian students had none of that but loved school and would have done anything to be there.

Many parents wonder how to find a preschool that is right for them and their situation. Searching for a preschool can be intrinsically more complicated that you might expect. First of all, admissions policies may mean that you have to seek a school well in advance, in some cases, hunting for a school for a child who is only a year old, so it can be tricky to find a good match.

It is the hope of Cowen Institute for Public Education Initiatives that the quality of schooling can be improved through these main areas of focus. Of course, it is expected that improvements will take some time, but the program is considered a start. Once it is obvious that the efforts have paid off for this state, it is likely that the plan will also be implemented elsewhere so that the entire country can share in the benefits of the program.

Not so long ago in the United States of America, some people were not given the same access to the same education because of the color of their skin. Up until fairly recently, women also didn't receive the same level of education in many countries.

One of the main areas that the Cowen Institute for Public Education Initiatives is working on is applied research. The point of this is to determine how best to measure the performance of local public schools. Once a few methods are figured out, the idea is to observe and record the improvement made by the schools. The next step is to gather researchers who are also interested in improving schooling, as they can help continue the process and allow other school districts to implement the necessary changes, as well.
