The TOEFL measures the test-taker's ability to function in an English-speaking academic environment. The target test-taker for the TOEFL is a candidate for higher education in an English-speaking country. The TOEIC, on the other hand, measures the ability to function in a general work environment. This test is used in nonacademic settings as a measure of the ability of a current or potential employee to communicate effectively in English in a variety of business settings and situations.

The TOEIC test is becoming more and more popular in South East Asia. Each year, businessmen spend thousands of dollars to prepare for the TOEIC test with the hope of achieving more than 900 points, because they consider this as a key to success in the international business environment. Consequently, studying and preparing for TOEIC is a growing trend for students and employees in South East Asia countries. In Vietnam, TOEIC is being used as a benchmark for graduation at more than 127 universities, colleges, vocational schools, as well as a human resources evaluation tool in more than 350 enterprises.

Plant nurseries host workshops on creating Christmas wreaths or succulent bowls. Art supply stores and craft stores have classes on using various materials in artistic ways. You have probably received catalogs of community education classes from colleges or senior centers, or you might belong to a club that regularly hosts speakers.
All these organizations welcome experts who want to come and share their knowledge.
The list of possibilities is pretty much endless. If your business does graphic design, consider holding a short workshop on how to use colors for emotional impact or how to choose the best fonts for print or online use.

A Home Office spokesperson told the Financial Times: "We are very disappointed by the decision and are awaiting a copy of the full determination to consider next steps including an appeal. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."

According to Mr. Doan Hong Nam, President of IIG Vietnam, "Vietnam was chosen to host this important event of the region because Vietnam had remarkable contributions to the development of TOEIC worldwide. Moreover, as the country representative of ETS in Vietnam, IIG has been doing a great job in training and expanding the number of TOEIC trainers". In addition, Vietnam has 7 teachers chosen by ETS to participate in the workshop with other teachers from the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos and Israel.

At the end of the workshop, the attendees got certified by the ETS as TOEIC Master Trainers. They will continue to train other teachers and contribute to improve the quality of TOEIC instructors in South East Asia.

MISKOLC, Hungary (Reuters) - Thousands of Hungarians protested on Wednesday against reforms of the education system by Prime Minister Viktor Orban's center-right government that they consider oppressive and heavy-handed.
The protesters say the reforms are yet another example of what they see as Orban's authoritarian style of leadership that has drawn criticism from the European Union and the United States as well as human rights groups within Hungary.
The Orban government, in power since 2010, took control of schools from local authorities three years ago and a central body now regulates all aspects of education, down to procuring chalk for rural elementary schools.
It has significantly increased teachers' workload and set a new curriculum using textbooks the critics say contain factual errors and promote very conservative views on issues such as homosexuality.

In order to fulfill the increasing demand of studying and preparing for TOEIC in the region, ETS selected top English teachers with strict requirements (years of experience in training TOEIC with a TESOL Certificate, or a Master degree in Education/English; or a Bachelor degree in English with a TESOL Certificate), to train them to be TOEIC Master Trainers and expand the number of T
OEIC instructors in South East Asia.

Test Scores
On the TOEFL iBT, the maximum possible score is 120 -- 30 points for each of the four sections. There is no "passing score" and colleges and universities will have their own requirements for admission, which test-takers can find information about through the admissions office. The TOEIC Reading and Listening test gives the test-taker a score of 10 to 990, which corresponds to bands in the Common European Framework measure of English proficiency. A test-taker will receive scores of zero to 200 for the Speaking and Writing Tests separately, again which corresponds to the CEF standards of English-language proficiency measurements.

For example, a landscape designer might partner with a nursery owner to talk about how to create a perfect shade garden; a hairdresser could team up with a cosmetics expert to offer makeover tips; a personal trainer with a nutritionist to present a class on how to get in shape for summer.
