People can learn different ways to take care of their back. This can include getting trained in symptom and pain control. Physical therapy may be recommended by a doctor. The therapist will instruct the patient on various exercises that the patient can later do on their own at home.
These exercises will help to make the muscles stronger that provide lower back support.
Surgical treatments

This is a staggering amount of children suffering with chronic symptoms that often do not have a definitive treatment in mainstream medicine.
There is a big difference between a bump on the head and a TBI; TBI is classified as a blow, jolt or bump to the head or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain. TBI's range in severity from "mild," i.e., a brief change in mental status or consciousness to "severe," i.e., an extended period of unconsciousness or amnesia after the injury.

For 10 percent of herniated disk sufferers, surgery is their only option. This is an ideal option for patients who are still experiencing severe pain after not having surgery for one month. Patients who have numbness or weakness can also be benefitted by surgery. Finally, patients who suffer nerve damage that is progressively getting worse usually end up getting surgery to solve their problem.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - The director of the federal agency that oversees education for American Indian children was demoted Wednesday after a federal watchdog found he used his influence to get jobs for a close relative and a woman with whom he had a romantic relationship.
Charles "Monty" Roessel abused his position as director of the U.S. Bureau of Indian Education to help the woman secure multiple positions and to get the relative a job on the Navajo Nation, the Interior Department's Office of Inspector General said in a report.
Roessel has led the bureau since late 2013. He didn't immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press seeking comment.
In removing Roessel as director, the Interior Department said it wanted to take immediate action given the gravity of the report.
Ann Marie Bledsoe Downes, a deputy assistant secretary under the Interior Department, will take over as the bureau's acting director.

Nonsurgical treatments
1. Exercise
Exercise can be an effective treatment if used on the advice of a physical therapist or a doctor. A person's back can be protected from injury by strengthening the trunk muscles. This can be accomplished by performing core stabilization exercises.
2. Rest
A doctor might advise a patient to rest for a certain period of time. In other cases, the doctor will suggest that the patient reduce their level of activity. The patient can slowly increase the amount of their physical activity based on their doctor's advice.

- Reduce the risk of disability from back pain and prevent another back injury.
- Return the patient to recreation, work or other various activities.
- The relief of weakness, pain or a numb feeling in the lower back and legs caused by pressure on the spinal cord or a spinal nerve root.
It is common for inflammation to decrease over time. Therefore, roughly 50 percent of patients who suffer from a lower back herniated disk have a full recovery in one month. Another 40 percent usually recover in six months. Surgery is only needed by 10 percent of people who have herniated disk problems.
